    Charles Robins.

Charles Robins has died aged 88.A great contributor to Middlesex cricket, mainly as an administrator and briefly as a player. In the mid-fifties being an amateur,it was proposed he should become the county captain, until his father Walter blocked it, stating that ''he's not good enough''.Charlie was charming and generous and always had a word for everyoneCondolences to all his family and friends.

Agreed on all counts - except perhaps his father's assessment. A true gent and a lovely man. He was a good friend of my late father, 60+ years ago, and of mine.

    RIP
