    T20 vs Kent

Just so nobody can ask why there isn't a thread for a T20 we actually won! Looks like we did to Kent what Glamorgan had done to us.

As far as I could see, I would have had to pay to watch the Kent live stream yesterday. I thought that was just an experiment a year or so back.

    Yes

£5 odd to view. Disappointing. Listened to the BBC local radio stream though that went pear shaped about 4 overs from the end. It did come back though

I'm really glad that there was no live stream last night and that we don't have Sky Sports. Is Du Plooy injured or ill?

The lack of information relating to player's fitness for selection is disturbing and can only lead to confusion and speculation.According to SKY,Du Plooy was unwell, whilst previously he missed matches due to injury. The club needs to provide clarification as to those unavailable for selection.

They are unlikely to do that. They want the opposition to plan for him playing. A virus I think and still not back. I suppose we had better get used to life without him as he will be England qualified next season.

Other counties plan for a T20 match? How unfair! No wonder we do so badly.

Of course I realise we plan too but we are short of players who shine consistently in the format, obviously not helped by finance. But I do wonder when I see Eski a mile outside off stump trying a ramp during the powerplay, when only two fielders are out. After the powerplay the reward is worth the risk as there is rarely a fielder where the ramp goes. Plus the bowling is containing rather than hostile. There must be some logic to it, unless it is just desperation, but it is beyond me.

I am not surprised how dismal our performances are in T 20 when our best two best batsmen Robbo and Stoneman and best bowlers Toby and Ethan are not selected at all. I believe supporters are entitled to see the best team available and notice all players have performed well for the second eleven today down in Somerset today with runs and wickets

Somerset 2s finish on 44-2 chasing 320 to win at Taunton Vale today. and don't forget it's available to watch on a live stream. Our underperforming in The T20 is certainly not due to the non-selection of senior players unsuited to the short form of the game. Ethan has been in the squad lately but he too has tended to have been a bit expensive previously.

Best in CC does not mean best in T20. Toby used to play regularly but perhaps it is considered more important to keep him fit for a competition we have a chance in. Ethan has played a few but gets clobbered because he doesn't bowl any rubbish - sorry, I mean he doesn't have the variations necessary to keep the batsmen guessing. Robson and Stoneman have played a few times. It is not Robbo's game, I fear. I could see Stoneman opening as he would find the boundaries in the powerplay.

If you look at other counties, most of them bring in players who don't play in the CC at he expense of, quite possibly, other best CC players. In particular, you see spinners bowling who would get carted in the CC with normal fields but can get away with the long hop outside off stump that goes for a single to the sweeper. Other counties also have two overseas specialists of course, which we can't afford.

The most notable omission is Thilan. I suppose he will play in the 50 over stuff but it just doesn't seem to be happening for him.

Fielding is a major consideration in T20 and age and limited mobility contribute to the non-selection of some senior players. Thilan lacks variety and accuracy together with lesser batting potential than Luke and Josh which at present excludes him from selection. Robbie must consider himself a bit unlucky not to have come under consideration up till now.
