''Brookes is a bowler with a huge amount of genuine talent who can bowl with real pace and aggression, and we believe will add a completely new dimension to our attack''.That's what director of Cricket Alan Coleman said, but at present, he cannot get into the team, curious?

By reputation and also personal observation Sophia Gardens usually is a slow turner, unresponsive to quick bowling. I’m not saying the answer is that simple, but the pitch could be a factor.

Middlesex are regularly playing four seamers in every game including the present one. Brookes is currently the fifth choice behind Helm, Bamber,Roland-Jones, and Higgins,he's not been selected in three matches so far, and has had little success when he has played, clearly not regarded as a marquee signing by the first-team coach or captain.

Yes, but none of the four seamers selected have pace as a major selling point except, to a small degree, Helm

The pace he possessed as an 18-year-old has long dissipated due to a history of leg and quad injuries, he's no quicker than any of the others mentioned. Barely thirty matches and a bowling average over forty after seven years at Warwickshire hardly justified the euphoria at his recruitment, nor has anything since. The point I'm making is the doubts I expressed when he signed have yet to be disproved. Whilst young bowlers like Cullen, Cornwall, and Kaushal stand by for opportunities, why has a substantial investment been made in a bloke discarded by his previous county with a very ordinary record of achievement and fitness?

That was nervy but a great win in the end, great to see Rocky back among the runs and Helm's all round efforts

That is a game we would have lost last year. Much more resilient now. Roll on Sussex on Friday.
