Maxwell's inning today was unprecedented. I really could not believe what I was watching. A magnificent achievement that will live long in the memory. I challenge anyone to recall a one-day innings that compares given all the circumstances. I'd also like to express huge respect and appreciation towards Afghanistan whose overall performance, despite today's setback has been the highlight of the tournament, and wish them further success in their next, but hopefully not last match of the competition.

It was great but Trott should be fired on the spot. The wheels came off and he needed to get a grip. Send on a sub with instructions, etc.

That's a good point, although Afghanistan did have their chances to dismiss Maxwell.
I don't have Sky, so am only able to watch the C5 highlights, which can be misleading, but throughout the competition many of the most effective shots seem to have been proper cricket strokes along the ground in the wide V between mid wicket and extra cover.

I know you are only as good as your last game but the idea that the coach who got an unconsidered team within touching distance of the semi-finals should be dispensed with seems very odd. It looks as if Trott has imbued a sense of calmness into their batting, so it's not all up to their spin attack to get the results. Maybe he could have done more from the sidelines, or maybe he wanted the team to think it through for themselves as a learning process. Or maybe it was just Maxwell's special day and there wasn't much else that could be done. The man himself says he had a lot of luck along the way.
Whether the Afghanistan tam can carry on, given the abolition of cricket (and a lot of much more important things) for women, is a moot point. It is not the male players' fault but praising anything coming out of Afghanistan makes me a little queasy.
