It wasn't a reference to anything.
I was just being open and transparent regarding who I was on the old forum.
I still wish that you and others would be prepared to fully self-identify.

But the forum rules make it clear we don't have to if we don't wish to.
I was always told to be cautious on the internet because of the possibility of trolling and internet theft.
The club knows my name, as I sponsor a player.
I'm not famous, so I don't see how knowing my surname would benefit you.
Hopefully you will respect my wish to stick with my first name only.

This is something Fingers has been banging on about since the MIOLP started. Most of us (me included) couldn't give a toss, provided people obey the Forum rules.
In this section, which is open for the Public to view without registering and for Middlesex members and the occasional supporter of any other CCC to join and post, I fully understand why some would prefer to post under a pseudonym. Anyway, even if there are a few (like Fingers) who object - it's absolutely fine to register and post under any name you select.
I would go further. We respect the decision to post anonymously and Fingers has been warned before about 'outing' an MCC member who chose anonymity. Any attempt to repeat would result in a ban.

A pity, James, that the same desire for anonymity isn’t also respected in the MIOLP WhatsApp group, being the reason I left it.

Yes, I know and I regret it.
Some members show little respect or courtesy. Usually these are the same members who demand respect and courtesy for themselves.
In any event, here anonymity is fine and if other members don't like it, they really don't have to remain.

We need to treat our new Middlesex members as guests and with tolerance. Equilibrium can follow. MTWD then, as now, is open to anyone to view, without registration, only those registered can post. This has led to a weariness in people using their own names.

I have been promoting this board amongst some regulars on old MTWD and will mention this to some at Kent game who maybe interested. I fear they will be put off by the nature of posts here regarding demanding full names. By the way I'm known as Barmy Kev because my name is Kev.

John Fingleton who posted some fairly aggressive messages on the subject (all of which have been deleted) has been banned from the MTWD area. Please reassure all your contact that they may register and post in whatever name they choose.

Just to reinforce the point, I made the mistake when joining my first forum (on a completely different topic) of using my real name. Unfortunately another poster didn't like anyone querying their views and took to sending me a childish and/or obscene email whenever I posted. In a way it was quite funny, especially when said poster got confused between the eight different usernames he employed to back up his own views, but I have no wish to repeat it. Not that the old MTWD ever had any posters who were aggressive or unpleasant - heaven forfend!

Please don't worry - I quite understand and a pseudonym is fine, especially here in the MTWD section.
John Fingleton (Fingers) was banned from this area for objecting (in a fairly aggressive manner) to the use of pseudonyms, which caused a couple of Middlesex members to say they would leave. I am glad you all stayed! Fingers can be somewhat curmudgeonly at times and he has ruffled a few metaphorical feathers in the MCC members area, but he is nevertheless a valued member of the site and a lifelong Middlesex member and supporter. He has undertaken to avoid any further discussion about the use of pseudonyms, so the moderators have agreed to readmit him. Obviously any repeat will result in a permanent removal. I am sure that his contributions here will be useful and welcomed.
